 | The buyer is responsible for the
surveyors fee. |
 | The buyer is responsible for
leaving a deposit. The deposit can be as high as 10% of the purchase
price if the boat is being brokered. |
 | The buyer is responsible for
paying for the boat being hauled out of water. |
 | The buyer is responsible for all
price negotiations with the seller. Surveyors do not get involved
with price negotiations. These include items that need repairs, the cost of
those repairs, and who will perform needed repairs. The surveyor will
provide a list of these items to the buyer only. |
 | When the buyer wishes to be
present for the survey, the buyer is responsible for setting up a time for
the survey. Often this require many telephones between the surveyor
and the owner or broker. The surveyor and broker communicate only after
these times have been settled upon. The surveyor will call the broker to
confirm his appointment. Should the buyer be unable or not wish to be
present then he can ask the surveyor to make whatever arrangements are
necessary. |
 | The buyer is responsible for
receiving the correct paper work such as the boat title from the seller
before buying the boat. Do not buy a boat without a correct title.
The buyer is also responsible for paper work concerning any warranties or guarantees
on the boat. |
 | The buyer is responsible for
financing and insuring the boat. |

When a broker is involved in a sale many
of these items are handled by the broker for both the buyer and seller. A great
many boat sales are handled by the broker and surveyor with neither seller or
buyer present.
The broker is the sellers representative
and the surveyor is the buyers representative.
Once a deposit is received
the broker takes care of all items except the surveyors fee.
The
surveyor furnishes a report to the buyer with a list of items that may need
repair, if any.
