Boat Styles There are many styles of boats made by many manufactures. The way you use your boat will most likely determine the type or style of boat that is best for you. If your primarily will use the boat for fishing you would most likely want a large cockpit low to the water or a center console with a walk around design. Something that gives you fishing room. If you mainly want to spend overnight trips on your boat you’ll be concerned with the cabin area and interior accommodations. If you plan on just cruising around a lot, the helm and accommodations for guests near the helm are a consideration. You should visit boats shows and marinas to determine the style of boat that would best suit you. Woman often place emphasis on different features than men might and if your wife is a boating companion you may wish to consult with her on what style she likes. What many of today's family boaters are interested in is a lot of room in as reasonable priced boat as the family budget allows. This has lead new boat manufactures to place a major emphasis on interior accommodations at the sacrifice of structural integrity. This has resulted in hulls being thinner (less materials used), more use of inexpensive metals in hardware, and quicker faster fabrication of production boats. On fishing boats inner liners are in, giving the interior an easy clean surface and a clean look. But extras result in reductions else where in a vessels manufacture. Giving less to the things you don’t see like construction features, and giving more to the things you do see like interior amenities seems to sell boats in the 21st century. No, they do not build boats like they use to. While this is promising to the field of Marine Surveying, the buyer must be extra cautious on his purchase. So "Let the buyer beware".
