Some boats we have surveyed

While each encompasses complete inspection of a vessel the focus of each type of survey will vary.  Purchase surveys are "condition and valuation surveys".  A purchase survey of a 25 to 30 foot boat will take approximately 4 to 5 hours at the boat and several hours to prepare a report.  Larger boats will take more time and smaller boats less time.  The vessel should be inspected by the surveyor both in and out of the water.  In water inspection will generally allow a trial of the vessel.  Sea trail of the vessel usually takes about one hour sometimes more depending on location, conditions, and performance.  During Sea Trial the vessel is rated in performance area such as handling, steering, accelerations, engine idling, gears & gear case shifting, engine cooling under load, and overhaul engine performance.

Purchase surveys are performed before or after a price has been negotiated for the vessel.  If the purchase price is under negotiation a purchase survey is often a useful tool.  Purchase surveys always include a Remarks and Recommendations section here any deficiencies of the surveyed vessel are listed.  These may include minor items as outdated flares or weathered upholstery or more serious items as blistering, structural stability or sprung laminates.  Many purchasers rely on the Remarks and Recommendation section as an indicator of what the vessel will cost after it is purchased.  Knowing the needed repairs of and the cost of those repairs makes the purchaser an informed buyer.

Since the surveyor may find various items that need repair the cost of the survey is often small in proportion to the possible cost of repairs or refurbishing a used boat.

A price of the vessel is always obtained in a Purchase survey.  The price the surveyor places on the vessel is generally what the vessel is worth in today's market.  This will give the buyer an idea of what the boat is worth.   Is a buyer paying too much for a boat or not enough.

Purchase surveys are very comprehensive and generally consist of about 15 or more typewritten pages.   Our purchase surveys will fulfill insurance company requirements and the requirement of finance company's.

Please See the sections on What We Do for details on what this type of survey will encompass.
